Like all varieties of corn, popcorn is native to the Americas. It was an important part of the Aztec diet, and was also used in ceremonial headdresses, necklaces and ornaments. The oldest popcorn ears found to date were discovered in 1948 in a bat cave in west central New Mexico. The tiny ears were 4,000 years old. Popcorn remains an American dietary institution. And that’s a good thing, because it is an economical, wholesome whole grain food high in fiber, complex carbohydrates and protein! Some of our popcorn is grown utilizing Regenerative Organic farming methods right here on our farm!
White (butterfly) Popcorn
Popcorn is a great way to help meet your daily quota of whole grains. There’s just nothing like the sound and aroma of popping corn! One serving consists of 2 1/2 to 3 cups of popped corn. Our popcorn pops up large, crunchy kernels with that classic toasty corn taste. (butterfly popcorn is the variety you get at the movie theater)
Yellow (butterfly) Popcorn
There is very little difference between white and yellow popcorn. Yellow popcorn has just slightly less carbohydrates. Both contain 15% of the daily value of fiber, and each contain equal amounts of fat and protein. In the end it comes down to personal preference and we think both choices are delicious! (butterfly popcorn is the variety you get at the movie theater)
Mushroom Yellow Popcorn
Mushroom yellow popcorn differs from our yellow butterfly popcorn as it pops up into more of a ball shape. Many use it for caramel, kettle or other flavored popcorn creations. With flavor or not, in the end it comes down to personal preference and we like it simply salted, too!
